Registering for the AA Rescue Service and how it works


How do I sign up for the AA Rescue Service?

To use the AA Rescue Service, you must first register on the website at www.aarescue.co.za, then follow the step-by-step instructions.

Is my information safe and secure?

The AA ensures that your personal data, and that of your contacts, is only accessible to employees with the necessary security credentials. Information relating to the use of your data from our website is detailed in our Privacy policy

What web browser do I need to use the AA Rescue Service?

You may use any web browser to access the website.

What kind of phone do I need to use the AA Rescue Service mobile application?

Smart phone access to the AA Rescue Service mobile application is available for Android, iOS and Blackberry operating systems, all other phones can access the service by simply dialling *120* 22000#. Setting this up as a phonebook contact, or on speed dial will save you time in an emergency situation. But make sure you register first!

How do I get access to the AA Rescue Service on my phone?

Simply register free-of-charge on the website at www.aarescue.co.za, then download the mobile application if you have a smartphone, or follow the instructions to set up the USSD dial string.

Can I access the AA Rescue Service through any network service provider?

The AA Rescue Service mobile application will operate on any network however, users accessing the AA Rescue Service through Cell C on the *120* number will have to provide location details to the call handler.

Can registered users travelling outside of South Africa use the AA Rescue Service?

The AA Rescue service is currently only operational in South Africa.

Can I register for the AA Rescue Service if I live outside South Africa?

The AA Rescue service is currently only available in South Africa.

Why do I need to register for the AA Rescue Service?

You must ensure that you register before using the AA Rescue Service so that we know who you are, where to find you in an emergency situation, and in order to access assistance services.

What happens once I have sent a Rescue Me alert?

Your alert will trigger an emergency notification in the AA’s 24 hour call centre advising us that you require assistance and providing your location, as well as confirming the contact and vehicle details that you registered with us. In addition, you’ll receive a phone call to confirm your assistance requirements. If you have a smart phone and have set it up for selected phonebook contacts to receive a sms, this will also be sent instantly, once you press the Rescue Me button.

Can I only use the AA Rescue Service if I have a smartphone?

You can register and access the AA Rescue Service no matter what phone you have. If your phone is not a smart phone, simply dial *120* 22000#. Setting this up as a phonebook contact, or on speed dial will save you time in an emergency situation. But make sure you register first!

How do I know if my phone is smartphone?

If you have a smartphone, you will be able to access the internet from your phone, download apps, as well as send and receive email. If your phone does not have this functionality, then you can use the AA Rescue Service via the *120* 22000#. Setting this up as a phonebook contact, or on speed dial, will save you time in an emergency situation. But make sure you register first!

I don’t have internet access to register for the AA Rescue Service. Is there another way I can register?

Simply call our helpline and one of our call takers will assist you, weekdays between 8am and 4pm.

Do I have to be an AA Member to receive assistance from the AA Rescue Service?

You can still receive assistance from the AA even if you are not an AA Member. You have the option to join the AA and receive AA Rescue Service assistance from your AA Membership benefits entitlement, or at AA Member preferred rates. If you choose not to become an AA Member services will be rendered at market-related rates and on a pay-on-use basis.

Are there charges associated with using my cellphone?

If you are using a smartphone, you will pay for the alert sent to our call centre at usual cellphone rates. If you are using the USSD dial string, then network operator premium rates apply.

 

AA Members and the AA Rescue Service


I am an AA Member, how do I receive assistance from the AA Rescue Service?

If you are an active, paid-up AA Member with remaining benefits entitlement, your assistance will be provided in the usual way and according to the terms and conditions of your Membership, or at preferred AA Member rates if you have no benefits remaining.

I am an AA Member, will it cost me more for assistance through the AA Rescue Service?

Registering for the AA Rescue Service is free-of-charge and your AA Membership benefit entitlements will apply

I am already an AA Member, do I still have to register for the AA Rescue Service?

If you register, you won’t need to call us in an emergency situation, simply press the Rescue Me button, or dial *120* 22000#, and we’ll instantly know exactly where to find you. You may still access your AA Membership benefits without registering if you prefer.

 

My AA Rescue Service account


I have the AA Rescue Service Rescue Me button on my phone, how do I use it in an emergency?

In a roadside emergency situation, press the Rescue Me button. A signal will be sent to our Emergency Call Centre, with your location details so that we know exactly where to find you, saving time in an emergency. We will call you to confirm which service you require and to ensure that you are safe.

My spouse and I share an email account, can we both sign up for the AA Rescue Service?

You may both register with the same email account details, but you will each need to register for an AA Rescue Service account in order to provide contact and vehicle details for emergency situations, and to receive service.

Can I add a dependent to my account?

Your dependents will each need to register themselves for the AA Rescue Service in order to provide contact and vehicle details for emergency situations, and to receive service.

I forgot my password, how do I get a new one?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and click on Forgot Password option in the Login window

Will you sell my information to a third-party?

You can feel safe and secure with the AA as your information will never be sold on to a 3rd party.

Can I upload a profile photo?

No profile photo is required.

How do I enter my personal information?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and register as a user.

How do I update my personal information?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and Login, then click on Update Details.

 

My nominated emergency contacts


How do I change / update my emergency contacts?

Go to the AA Rescue Service at www.aarescue.co.za and Login, then click on Update Details.

How many emergency contacts can I have?

You may register up to 3 nominated contacts.

How do you inform my nominated contacts in an emergency?

If we are unable to contact you at the contact details on your profile after 3 attempts, we will call your nominated emergency contacts at the numbers you provided when registering, so make sure to keep these details up-to-date.

How do I change the name of my AA Rescue Service nominated contacts?

Simply visit the website at www.aarescue.co.za and Login using the details you provided on registering, then select Update Details to make changes to your nominated contact’s information.

How many of my nominated contacts do you call in an emergency?

If we receive a Rescue Me alert from your phone, and we are unable to contact you after 3 attempts, we will attempt to contact each of your nominated emergency contacts in turn.

Can my emergency contacts be out of the province or international?

Your emergency contacts may be anywhere in South Africa.
